Community Guidelines

Charlie’s Movie Reviews is a place for people who enjoy movies to share what they think, discover other opinions, and have fun talking about films.

People will disagree about movies. That is part of what makes the conversation interesting.

We just ask everyone to keep the conversation safe, respectful, and family-friendly.

Be Respectful

Talk about the movie and the ideas being discussed without attacking the person who posted them.

It is perfectly fine to say:

“I completely disagree with that review.”

It is not okay to insult, embarrass, threaten, or bully the reviewer or another community member.

Different opinions are welcome. Personal attacks are not.

Keep It Family-Friendly

Charlie’s Movie Reviews is intended for a broad family audience.

Please do not post:

  • profanity;

  • sexually explicit material;

  • graphic or disturbing descriptions;

  • hateful or abusive comments;

  • threats;

  • crude jokes or inappropriate language; or

  • links to inappropriate content.

Sometimes discussing a movie requires mentioning difficult subjects. That is okay when it is relevant and handled appropriately.

Protect Your Personal Information

Do not post private information about yourself or anyone else.

That includes things such as:

  • phone numbers;

  • home addresses;

  • personal email addresses;

  • passwords;

  • private social-media contact information;

  • precise locations; or

  • information intended to help strangers contact or locate someone.

This rule is especially important for younger members of our community.

Our safety systems may automatically block or remove personal information when they detect it.

No Bullying or Harassment

Do not repeatedly target, embarrass, intimidate, threaten, or harass another user.

Do not encourage other people to gang up on someone because of a movie review or comment.

Debate the movie—not the person.

No Unsafe or Predatory Behavior

Charlie’s Movie Reviews has zero tolerance for behavior that could put a child or another community member at risk.

Do not:

  • ask a minor for private contact information;

  • ask a minor to move a conversation to private messaging or another service;

  • attempt to discover where another user lives, goes to school, or spends time;

  • make sexual comments toward or about a minor;

  • engage in grooming or predatory behavior;

  • pressure another person to keep a conversation secret; or

  • encourage dangerous or illegal behavior.

Serious safety concerns may result in immediate account restriction and other action when appropriate.

Don’t Share Someone Else’s Private Information

Never post another person’s phone number, address, email address, private messages, photographs, location information, or other private information without appropriate permission.

If you accidentally include personal information, tell us so we can help remove it.

No Spam

Do not post:

  • repetitive advertisements;

  • unrelated promotions;

  • misleading links;

  • mass-posted comments;

  • scams;

  • fake giveaways; or

  • other material intended primarily to advertise or manipulate users.

Occasionally mentioning something genuinely relevant to a movie discussion is different from repeatedly promoting something.

Be Yourself

Do not pretend to be another member, reviewer, celebrity, movie studio, employee, or organization.

Parody or obvious joking is different from trying to deceive people about who you are.

Don’t Manipulate the Community

Do not create accounts or use automated methods to artificially increase reactions, ratings, comments, or other activity.

Do not attempt to get around moderation filters or an account restriction.

Avoid Spoilers Without Warning

Movies are more fun when people can decide for themselves whether they want spoilers.

When discussing an important plot twist, ending, surprise appearance, or other major spoiler, clearly warn readers first whenever the Site provides a reasonable way to do so.

Reviews Can Disagree

Charlie, another reviewer, and community members may all have completely different opinions about the same movie.

That is welcome.

A low rating is not an attack on someone who enjoyed the movie, and a high rating is not an attack on someone who disliked it.

There is room here for both.

Comments Are Moderated

Comments submitted to Charlie’s Movie Reviews may be reviewed before they appear publicly.

Our moderation process may include automated safety screening and review by an adult moderator.

A comment may be held, rejected, edited to remove private information, or removed if it creates a safety problem or violates these Guidelines.

Passing through an automated filter does not automatically mean a comment will be published.

Reviews Are Moderated Too

Reviewer submissions do not automatically publish to the website.

Reviews may be checked for safety and appropriateness and require adult approval before publication.

A reviewer may be asked to revise something before it is published.

We May Remove Content

We may remove or restrict content that violates these Guidelines, even if a specific situation is not listed word-for-word above.

We will use our judgment with the goal of keeping Charlie’s Movie Reviews safe, welcoming, and enjoyable.

Repeated Problems May Affect Your Account

Depending on the situation, violating these Guidelines may result in:

  • a comment not being published;

  • removal of existing content;

  • a warning;

  • temporary restrictions;

  • loss of commenting privileges; or

  • suspension or removal of an account.

A serious safety violation may result in immediate action.

One Simple Rule

Talk about movies the way you would want someone to talk with you and your family.

You do not have to agree.

You do have to be respectful.
